Lighting Up Ryton: A Heartwarming Tale of Community and Giving

December 6, 2023

As the festive season approaches, it’s often the small acts of kindness and collaboration that truly embody the spirit of giving and community. In November, an inspiring partnership between The Energy Experts and a local charity, Brighten Ryton, illuminated this spirit in the most literal sense.

The Spark of Collaboration:

Late November 2023, a unique challenge presented itself to The Energy Experts, a departure from our regular work but one we embraced with open arms. Brighten Ryton, a cherished local community charity dedicated to enhancing the environmental wellbeing of Ryton and Stella ward, found itself with a problem. Their ambition to light up the town with festive cheer for Christmas was hindered by difficulties in securing a reliable energy supply for the seasonal decorations and the grand switch-on ceremony.

Illuminating the Community:

Understanding the importance of community and the joy that the holiday season brings, The Energy Experts didn’t hesitate to step in. We were honoured to donate the necessary equipment for the Christmas tree lights and the festival’s switch-on. This gesture wasn’t just about providing material support; it reflected our commitment to giving back to our community and fostering a vibrant, welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy.

A Festive Evening to Remember:

The event, dubbed “The Big Switch On,” took place on the 30th November at 4:30 pm, with the highlight being the Christmas lights switch-on at 5 pm. The venue, The Green Triangle, was a fitting backdrop for this festive gathering, showcasing the community’s unity and spirit. Crookhill Primary School students led the crowd in Christmas carols, adding to the magical atmosphere.

Brighten Ryton, since it started in December 2016, has been instrumental in engaging the community in environmental preservation efforts. From litter-picking to maintaining flower beds, cemeteries, memorial gardens, and heritage sites, their work is a testament to the power of collective action and care for our surroundings.

The Glow of Community Spirit:

This story goes beyond the flicker of Christmas lights. It’s a reminder of the warmth and light we can bring into each other’s lives through collaboration, generosity, and a shared commitment to our community and environment.

As The Energy Experts, we are proud to have played a part in this festive event, but more importantly, we are inspired by the collective spirit of Ryton’s residents and the dedicated volunteers of Brighten Ryton.

As we reflect on “The Big Switch On” and its significance, it’s clear that the brightest lights are not just those that adorn our streets during the holiday season, but the ones that shine within each of us, fuelled by community, kindness, and the joy of giving.

May this story inspire more acts of kindness and collaboration, not just during the festive season but throughout the year. Here’s to a brighter, more connected community – may our lights never dim.
